Information & Social Media: LJ3

RSSWeather.com web page showing an RSS icon for an RSS feed

I liked reading and analyzing the past few readings each week. This weeks reading What Is an RSS Feed? (And Where To Get It) stood out to me because I didn’t know a lot of information on what an RSS was. After reading the article, I understand that RSS feeds help you stay up to date with information on blogs or other sites. I also learned how to find an RSS feed on a website through the videos. Since RSS feeds are on a lot of websites, I think it would be better to put RSS into my online usage, so that way it can prevent me from scrolling through useless content, which is a habit of mine.

Usage on social media has changed so much over the past couple years. I used to never use social media for anything, but now since it blew up and there are many different platforms I use it quite often. Our assignment for this week has a lot to do with usage on social media. It was a great way for myself to realize how much I go on social media and use different platforms. Whenever I’m working or in class I tend to never go on my phone because it looks unprofessional and there’s no reason to be on your phone during work or school. I wish the use of phones decreased because it was less of a hassle when they weren't around.

  1. I also agree with you on your response regarding to RSS. I had never heard of RSS prior to reading this week. I also think that was something that we all have access to, yet we never registered what it really was and how to use it.
I also realized I go on social media a lot, especially after seeing all the statistics from our book. It does not surprise me how much social media is used or spent since we rely on it so much daily.

Assignment 3- Time Diary

The social media application I will be documenting and talking about is TikTok. I most frequently use TikTok out of all the applications I have on my phone, so it will be easier to track my usage over the past 4 days.  Feb 18- Saturday: TikTok was used for a total of 3 hrs 31 mins. I was most active in the morning between 9am - 11am and right before bed around 1am. I usually spend my free time and relax time on TikTok.  Feb 19- Sunday: TikTok was used for a total of 4 hrs 13 mins. I was most active during the afternoon between 4pm - 7pm and also right before bed around 12am. When I got back from running errands, all I wanted to do was relax, so I spent that time on TikTok.  Feb 20- Monday: TikTok was used for a total of 2 hrs 35 mins. I was most active before going to sleep around 12am. Before I sleep I like to settle down and relax, so TikTok helps with that.  Feb 21- Tuesday: TikTok was used for a total of 4 hrs 8 mins. I was most active in the morning between ...

Social Media Thoughts: LJ1

Back At It With Social Media 101! Just like everything else in the world, there are dos and don'ts when using social media. It's quite similar to etiquette guidelines. Interact with others, consistently share to keep feeds current, and most importantly, be real are my personal social media dos. Other things you should never do on social media include publishing too much stuff or any photographs that would give you a bad reputation. You should also avoid stealing other people's images because doing so could affect you in the long term.  I believe social media has changed significantly since everyone seemed so innocent when I was a child and phones first started to gain popularity use, but now the majority of users share material that is somewhat explicit. Instagram was the only social media platform I utilized when I was younger; however, other platforms are now being used, including Snapchat, Twitter, and even TikTok. If I could travel back in time to when I first started...
