Hands-On Assignment 2

Social media is the main form of communication amongst people. It is a way for individuals to stay connected with one another and express their feelings through what they post. Forms of social media I currently use are Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and BeReal. I use these applications for different purposes, but they all do have similar features and attributes that suit my needs. I use Instagram as a source to share my favorite pictures with my followers, but there is such a thing as a finsta account where I share more personal photos and information about my daily tasks. Snapchat is more of a way for me to communicate with friends in a more casual setting and I use it everyday. It is my most frequently used app, which I think a lot of individuals would agree with. TikTok is probably right behind Snapchat as being my most frequently used app. It helps me in times of boredom; I tend to open the app throughout my day at random times when I want to watch others post videos. Mostly TikTok i...

We Are Data: LJ2

John Cheney-Lippold's We Are Data is sort of interesting and puzzling. He examines how algorithms use and influence our behavior. With this examination, he is able to explain "the internet" and how people can track all of our information. The author goes into great detail about self identity and how our information is being used out in the world.  Celebrities are discussed as not actually being famous, but as just someone whose information is more displayed online and not confidential. Everything we search up or glance at on the internet is stored in files and is not safe. "In this case, Google isn't really accessing "fame." Google is creating its own proprietary version of it" (Cheney-Lippold, 2019). Algorithms are everywhere and they recreate us using our own data. They can categorize us as celebrities or even as terrorists; we don’t have a lot of control over who we are. This means that our identities as individuals are not useful to us, but a...

Social Media Thoughts: LJ1

Back At It With Social Media 101! Just like everything else in the world, there are dos and don'ts when using social media. It's quite similar to etiquette guidelines. Interact with others, consistently share to keep feeds current, and most importantly, be real are my personal social media dos. Other things you should never do on social media include publishing too much stuff or any photographs that would give you a bad reputation. You should also avoid stealing other people's images because doing so could affect you in the long term.  I believe social media has changed significantly since everyone seemed so innocent when I was a child and phones first started to gain popularity use, but now the majority of users share material that is somewhat explicit. Instagram was the only social media platform I utilized when I was younger; however, other platforms are now being used, including Snapchat, Twitter, and even TikTok. If I could travel back in time to when I first started...

Welcome to my blog!

Hi Everyone!😊 My name is Sydney Charalambous, but most people call me Syd. Only my close friends call me "Syd-bean" or "Squid". When anyone asks for my name I always have to say "Sydney, like Australia" because people can never get it right.  Background🌎 I am currently majoring in Education, however I am anticipating changing my major. I was a nanny in high school, so I have always loved working with kids and knew I wanted a career in which I can help others, but I do not think I want to do education. I am unsure of what I want to do, so I took a variety of different courses this semester in order to find my passion and future career choice.  I am originally from New Jersey and lived there until I was 18 years old. I grew up in the same house in New Jersey throughout that time, but moved to a new house one town over for three months. My dad also grew up in the same house that I spent 18 years in, so family is very important to me and I knew I wanted to...
